LOCATION
Currently based in London, I’ve also lived in France, Canada, the United States, Singapore, and Indonesia. I’m fluent in English and am conversant in French and Indonesian.

EDUCATION
I graduated from Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada with a BA (Honours), which provided me with a foundation in the liberal arts. I subsequently received an MBA in France, which has allowed me to shape a unique career in business. I am also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

My photography is self-taught.

SPECIALISATION
My work encompasses all aspects of travel photography, ranging from landscapes to wildlife to city scenes.

However, I am increasingly drawn to people and social dynamics -- understanding the human side to the story and scene. Over time, I've found that capturing the moment when people open up gives a whole new angle to the place I'm witnessing, and tells an utterly unique and personal story that speaks for the place itself.

I’ve also been drawn to surreal landscape formations as subjects, which has lead to my more remote travel (e.g. Antarctica, Bolivian salt flats, Libyan Sahara, Pamir Plateau, and more).

OBJECTIVES
Rather than merely cataloguing a series of destinations, my goal is to capture the experience of travel and communicate the sensation, emotion, and drama of being there. With every image, I hope a viewer can participate in the story of a specific moment caught on film.

In particular, I enjoy sharing the humanity and empathy in any given moment of a visit to a new culture -- there are always rich stories in the personal and human dynamics and I try to find a way to capture the essence of this and share it with others.

Given my remote travel, I also want to convey the experience of wide open expanses surrounded by the sky – reminiscent of my childhood on the Canadian prairies. These sublime images of a sky enveloping the earth along a distant horizon inspire a sense of wonder and possibility I hope to share with my audience.

DESTINATIONS
I have traveled at every opportunity, bringing me to all seven continents. The following have been especially notable journeys:
  • Indonesia: extensive travel, including living on and exploring Java and Bali for 2.5 years. Also travelled through Nusa Tenggara, from Bali and Lombok through Sumbawa, Sumba, and Flores
  • Southeast Asia: from the more remote islands of Thailand’s south, through to the northern hills and over the border to Luang Prabang, Laos; down to Cambodia, to Angkor Wat at Siem Reap, then on to Indonesia (again) to Bali and Java
  • Vietnam: from the Mekong Delta overland to Hanoi and Halong Bay
  • Burma: Rangoon to Mandalay, down the Irrawaddy to Bagan, and overland to Inle Lake
  • India: extensive travel from Varanasi through to Jaisalmeer, up to Dharamsala, and down to Bombay, all by train, bus, and camel
  • Nepal: Kathmandu through to Pokhara, from meditation to trekking to soaring above the clouds in a balloon
  • Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana: an overland safari in a magical summer
  • Libya: to the centre of the Sahara for a solar eclipse, through the Ubari Sand Sea, then up to the ancient cities of Sabratha and Leptis Magna
  • Antarctica: exploration of Antarctic peninsula and peri-Antarctic islands, from glaciers to wildlife, to man’s impact on the environment
  • Argentina, Chile, Bolivia: Patagonia, the Atacama Desert, and the Uyuni Salt Flat – in search of immense beauty and remote horizons
  • Central Asia: Uzbekistan and the Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva; and Tajikistan, with the remote Pamir Plateau and Wakhan Valley, bordering Afghanistan
  • Mongolia: Travelling by old Russian van and camping along the way -- visiting Buddhist temples rebuilding after Communism, crossing the Gobi desert, witnessing a solar eclipse in the remote far west, and climbing to a glacier at the border of China, Russia, and Mongolia
  • Kenya and Rwanda: A walking safari through northern Kenya, contrasted with the life in the slums of Nairobi; and visiting Rwanda to see the nation recovering from the genocide of 1994, yet with the continued troubles in the DRC at their doorstep
  • Syria: From the world's oldest city, Damascus, across the Syrian Desert through Roman ruins, to the Euphrates, where early civilisation began. Visiting families, villages and markets along the road that tracks the Euphrates to the border with Iraq. Through bread factories and early morning streets of Aleppo, and on to Crusader castles and ancient villages where the Aramaic language still survives.
